Peggy is currently the Associate Professor of Horn at the University of Central Oklahoma. She built the horn studio from a small group into a full studio that performs at international events and whose graduates have gone onto successful careers in teaching and performance.
Highlights of the UCO Horn Studio include:
Performance at 2018 International Horn Society Symposium
Performance at 2018 MidSouth Horn Conference
Performance at 2016 MidSouth Horn Conference
Performance at 2015 International Horn Society Conference
Peggy and the UCO Horn Studio, along with Dr. Kate Pritchett and the Oklahoma City University Horn Studio, organized the 2020 MidSouth Conference and were poised to co-host this conference March 13-15, 2020. The conference was unfortunately cancelled days before opening due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Peggy’s teaching is grounded in goal-setting, chamber music, performance skills, and practical knowledge. In weekly masterclasses, students share goals and discuss how best to reach them; this activity builds community in the studio and bolsters each student’s work ethic. Likewise, chamber music is a vital aspect of the Horn Studio - in addition to the Horn Choir, there are usually 2-3 horn quartets. These quartets allow the students to focus on developing their musical ideas, creating a great section sound, and advertising and setting up performance opportunities. Peggy works diligently with her students on practical skills in addition to musical skills, including navigating study skills, organization, and financial aid. This whole-person approach has created a horn studio filled with supportive, focused, and successful students.
